For example: "One, nine, and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?", "Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?", "Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?"

3) After your f-list has stopped asking questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

comments

Jeez. The more I answer this meme, the less I'm sure I should have ever started. I had no idea that I avoided talking about so many topics until I realized that I avoid even thinking about some of them.

My religious life is complicated. I grew up in a fundamentalist Bible Church. Think Southern Baptists on 'roids and you get an idea of what it was like. There were no exorcisms or laying on of the hands, though, because nearly everyone in the Church I grew up in was highly educated and felt that some things pushed religion just too far. *rolls eyes*

I will credit my upbringing with one thing: TPTB always stressed the importance of reading the book. So, I've read various versions of the Bible multiple times. I own at least four. I also own the major religious books for every major world religion and about a score of other religious texts. I find the idea of religion fascinating, but at some point along the way, I disconnected from it.

I'm pretty sure there is a God. Depending on the day, I sometimes think He has a bizarre sense of humor. While I like the main tenants of Christianity, and take no offense at anything Jesus ever reportedly said, I don't generally feel the same about most of his self-proclaimed followers.

I hate hypocrites and since Jesus seemed less than keen on them, I think that's the basis for what I believe.

If you say you believe in something, act that way. Don't preach, lead. Don't force something down my throat, because I *will* spit it back at you (and you won't like it).

The Meme:
Day 01 - Introduction
Day 02 – Your first love, in great detail
Day 03 – Your parents, in great detail
Day 04 – What you ate today, in great detail
Day 05 – Your definition of love, in great detail
Day 06 – Your day, in great detail
Day 07 – Your best friend, in great detail
Day 08 – A moment, in great detail
Day 09 – Your beliefs, in great detail
( If you'd like to play along )

comments

Ugh. I *hate* this topic, not because I hate best friends, but because I am blessed with a lot of people that I love and this seems to somehow drop some of them into a less worthy status.

So, I reject it.

Instead, I will talk about the sort of friend that I strive to be, or, in other words, the best friend that I can be.

As someone with a distinct lack of romantic love in her life, I have still never felt unloved for even a minute. My friends fill that void for me to an astonishing degree. I have had people ask why I do things for the people I love, or indicate that some requests are ones that I should turn down, but I can't help myself.

If you're a friend of mine, and you need something that I can do, I will do it. The end. That simple. I remember my dad telling me when I was little that Christians don't loan money, they give it and never expect it to be returned. They only give what they can afford to give, and they never have any resentment over it if it isn't repaid.

While I scoff aloud at the idea that this is how all Christians behave, it struck me as exactly how a true friendship should work.

( If you'd like to play along )

comments

I'm cheating. This technically fell on either one of the Dragon*Con days or on yesterday, the day of my big mediation. I'm... not up to posting about yesterday yet. And Dragon*Con will result in a post with equal mix of SQUEEEEEEEEEEE/RAAAAAAAGEEEEEEEEE, so I'm going to just pick up today. I'm not going to play catch up, you'll just have to keep reading from this day forward.

I stayed up way too late last night reading Mockingjay, which I finished at some nebulous time around 3 or 4. I didn't even look at the clock so I couldn't keep reminding myself how tired I was today because I got so little sleep.

Mattie came in and woke me up at about 8, although I'd heard him a few times before he actually came in. I stumbled out of bed and did the bathroom thing, although I didn't change, because I didn't want to go to work right away.

After I was alone, I drank two cups of coffee and made a few phone calls. Then I checked emails and sent off a few that needed answers. I tried to set up my second story interview and I need to finish setting up some magazine interviews.

At about 10:30, I decided I was starving. So I made lunch, although I didn't sit to eat until I put hair dye on my hair. I've got a haircut appointment tonight and I don't want to get it cut with all the grays showing.

Now, I'm watching "Say Yes to the Dress" (Umm, what is this show!?) and updating journals and stuff.

I'm going to go into the office later today with plans to finish 3 demand letters and 1 divorce petition. I'm also engaged in an email battle with Fulton County today, so that should be fun. Tonight, after the haircut, I'm going to have dinner with Nat.

I need to do two loads of laundry and my sister is coming into town this weekend, so I should probably also do a bit of cleaning.

S is working from home today with a sick puppy, so I really see no reason to race into the office. Good thing since I now have to shower the hair dye out! LOL. Plus, really, I need to see if this woman spends $12,000 on a wedding dress. Because, seriously, even if I had an unlimited amount of money, I wouldn't drop that kind of cash on a dress I was going to wear once. I'm not that <s>ridiculous</s> romantic.

The Meme:
Day 01 - Introduction
Day 02 – Your first love, in great detail
Day 03 – Your parents, in great detail
Day 04 – What you ate today, in great detail
Day 05 – Your definition of love, in great detail
Day 06 – Your day, in great detail
( If you'd like to play along )

comments

This is a very interesting question, actually. I will forever associate my answers with this Bible verse:

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves."
-- 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

While I don't think that people are that infallible, I do think love is that infallible. To me, love is showing up to help a friend move, and when she can't do much because of her asthma, it's taking charge of packing boxes and running the vacuum cleaner. Love is letting someone move in with you because otherwise they won't have a place to live. Love is driving to get someone because they got drunk and you'd rather be inconvenienced than have them be at risk. Love is doing the dishes, again.

Love is worrying about someone, even when - especially when - they aren't worried enough about themselves. Love is rejoicing in someone else's victories and crying with them during the hard times. Love is late night phone calls because someone else needs to talk.

Love is biting your tongue when you're right, and saying you're sorry when you're wrong. Love is hugging people when you see them and when you say good-bye. Love is saying you love someone, even when it's mushy and feels strange because you'd rather they know it for sure.

Love is letting someone leave you, but hoping they'll come back. Love is letting someone else make the wrong decisions, because if they don't, they won't ever be happy. Love is telling someone they're making the wrong decisions when you're afraid that the decisions will hurt them too much.

Love is lunch dates to gossip about television, and early morning phone calls during commutes to help pass the time away. Love is laughter and joy. Love is also crying and pain.

Love is everything that makes anything worthwhile.

I hope that was specific enough. :)

The Meme:
Day 01 - Introduction
Day 02 – Your first love, in great detail
Day 03 – Your parents, in great detail
Day 04 – What you ate today, in great detail
Day 05 – Your definition of love, in great detail
( If you'd like to play along )

comments

LOL. This is easy, since I've not eaten much today. Thus far today, I decided to skip coffee and such this morning as punishment for being a moron (actually, I lost my phone, and spent so much time looking for it that I didn't remember to eat anything). Then, after I got to work, I realized I was *starving* so I drove to Chik-Fil-A and conned my way into a Chicken Biscuit at 11!

Wheee!

I also got a large sweet tea.

I know that these things have the combined calories necessary to keep me going for a week, but damn, they were tasty. :D

(Also, since I'm down another 2 lbs, I decided I could splurge!)

The Meme:
Day 01 - Introduction
Day 02 – Your first love, in great detail
Day 03 – Your parents, in great detail
Day 04 – What you ate today, in great detail
( If you'd like to play along )

comments

Win a case that will make a major difference to a social cause I support.
3.	Be asked to speak at ASC’s graduation some day.
4.	Work in some sort of political context. I’d like to be a Chief of Staff, please. ;)
5.	Run a successful and profitable practice on my own.

redrobben asked for the Top 5 Reasons That Prove Why Bewize is an Amazing Attorney. :-)

Thanks for the compliment! I’m not necessarily sure I agree all the time, but I’ll tell what qualities I think I embody well.

1.	I listen to my clients. Really listen to them.
2.	I tell anyone that’s full of BS that they are full of BS. Bosses, judges, clients, etc.
3.	I don’t take myself too seriously.
4.	I remember that every case is important to someone.
5.	Even if I’m afraid of the repercussions, I still do what I truly think is right so that I can sleep at night.

comments

For this one, I must use pics. I also have to say this was really hard to narrow down and I decided that I should use more than one character from any given anime to broaden the spectrum.

1. By far my most favorite anime character ever - and I'm sure anyone who knows me isn't surprised - Yagami Light from Death Note.

I absolutely got sucked into this story. It was the single best thing I read in all of 2007 and one of the best things I've read in my entire life. The story was filled with twists and intrigue and the characters were so fucking complex.

( SPOILERS )

2. Son Gohan from Dragon Ball Z. This kid is the reason I started watching anime. He's the reason I started buying stuff from Ebay and he's the reason I signed up on Netflix. He brought me hardcore into fandom and he remains, always and forever, one of my absolute favorite characters.

I watched all 300 something episdoes of DB, DBZ, DBGT and anything I can find. I devoured fanfiction, wrote it myself, and never ever outgrew him. He was a wimpy, ridiculous, frightened kid who was afraid of everything and stood up to it anyway. He did it to make his father proud. He did it to make his mentor proud.

In the end, the whole series became utterly ridiculous, but the Cell Saga remains one of my all time ever favorite stories. Evil v. innocence. And the cost of it was high, for everyone. I loved that it didn't downplay that.

3. Sohma Kyo from Fruits Basket. I'll confess. I debated for a while here between him and Sohma Hatsuharu. I love them both, but I finally came down on the side of Kyo. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what I love about him, though. He's fiesty and fiery and very often completely wrong. But he's also genuine.

( SPOILERS )

4. Otanashi Saya from Blood +. Finally, a girl character that I could really sink my teeth into. She starts out sweet and innocent and soon enough it is revealed that all is not as is believed.

( SPOILERS )

5. Shimada Kambei from Samurai 7. This is the picture that drew me in:

The art work from this anime was incredible. All of the characters were very distinct, but something about the way Kambei was drawn really appealed to me. The character appealed to me as well. He was calm and unexciteable. He had a distinct honor that he never breeched. He knew what he asked of his friends, knew that it was unlikely that they would all survive, and allowed them to make their own decisions.

Kambei also really knew who he was. The time period put him on the brink of extinction, but he never wavered from what he thought he should be, especially when it was hard. This whole story kept me riveted on the edge of my seat.

comments

Today's non-fannish topic appears to be the SCA. Since I know nothing about SCA, nor am I particularly interested in learning more, I decided I'd do that 101 Narrative Kinks meme. I struggled a bit when I got to 78, took a break, and then remembered all the other things that work for me!

If you happen to have a similar list, would you link me to it in the comments? I'm very curious <s>and nosy</s>.

( 101 Bullet Proof Fic Kinks (for Me, Anyways!) )

comments
