Rambling Along

My "write whatever I think will be fun" approach to a potential marvel_bang story has netted me 4000 words. I've also gone down some serious rabbit holes including:

* Rent in Manhattan
* Gay Bars in Manhattan
* Making up Memes on my own
* Text message conversations conventions
* Teenage slang

I knew, but just "lightbulbed" the fact that Taiki Waititi is the driving creative force behind Our Flag Means Death and the upcoming Thor movie. I'm here for all of it, at this point.

I'm on day 4 of "wear pirate eye make up to work" and I think I've just about nailed it. I watched a video yesterday and had so much fun recreating parts of it today. Ha!

One of my BFFs lost her job yesterday. It was both unexpected and expected, but still a shock. Sucks.

If I had time, I would both learn more make up and learn to edit videos. Maybe when I retire? LOL!

I'm also thinking about signing kiddo and me up for martial arts. We could both benefit from it.

Marvel Big Bang

Well.

I think I came up with a plot. And I may be the *only* person in the world interested in it, but I am interested in it. I'm not committing or anything, but I opened a document and have started putting in all the snippets and tangents that I think of when I contemplate the story. Usually while I'm walking/running and listening to music.

I have 1500 words so far - totally disconnected, but I am starting to see the bones of this story, and I like it. I'm glad I have months to keep poking it - and I'm also glad that there's no pressure.

If something comes together, great! If not, at least I can enjoy it. :)

I definitely have the "key" song picked out. The one I can listen to over and over to get me in the headset of this story. "I Was Born to Run" by American Authors if anyone wants to listen. It's got a good beat and a great upbeat energy in it. I heard it the other night (maybe for the first time?) and have listened to it probably 50 times in the last week.

Writing Thoughts

My life is so hectic right now and I find myself being drawn more and more to want to write - but without the ability to follow through. I really am thinking about marvel_bang, though, because if I don't have to sign up until the drafts are due. So, I either manage it or not. No risk of signing up and then failing.

And, I think I have an idea that would easily fill a story that size (and probably then some, if I'm not careful). So, I may play with an outline and see how that goes, but if I start now... I could maybe finish by draft deadline.

I joined the discord for this challenge and I'm hoping to find some sense of community there. I think that would make it easier and more fun to finish. (Always looking to talk fic ideas - mine, yours, whatever!) and be cheerleaders in general. So, yeah, if you're interested. :)

I think, though, that my life's demands are such right now that I can't spend the time and energy that I used to writing - but it's more time and energy *now* that it was during the Big Drought of not writing at all. The pendulum swings, I guess.

My recent Misfit Market haul!

Non-produce - two cartoons of my favorite oat milk! Also, some garlic herb cashews.

My four year old already decimated the blueberries. He's also excited about the pineapple.

I'm going to make some lime infused water tomorrow, too.

Open to suggestions for anything else.

Definitely making a big salad for the week, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, onion, carrots & peppers (leftover from last week).

Might try a Brussel sprout salad, too, if I can find one that looks tasty.

In an effort to be better about journaling again... I'm going to try and participate!

I think I'd gotten to a place of assuming that people don't care about what I think/have to say (not in a "Guess I'll Go Eat Worms" kind of way, but in a "we're all so busy!" kind of way), but I like reading about random stuff people write and maybe you do to. If not, skip! LOL.

1. What's your favorite candle scent?

I was obsessed with Fresh Balsam from Bath and Bodyworks at Christmas. I burned an entire large candle in a month after it was gifted me by a coworker. It was just gorgeous. It also sparked an interest in keeping nice candles burning in my house and I just placed an order for mini-candles from Voluspa. I ordered the following:

2. Do you have an artistic or crafty hobby? What is it?

I like to write fiction and fanfiction. I sometimes dabble in other things, but I'm not really good at any of them - scrapbooking, collages (vision boards), doodling in the margins of my work notepads.

3. What's one weird way you save money on food?

We eat leftovers at my house. And I bulk cook vegetables on the weekend so we have plenty of options all week and I don't have to throw anything away!

4. Do you collect anything weird or unusual?

Umm. No? Just stories about the random weird, funky, and wild things I've done in my life. XD

5. Do you fear the deep ocean, or does its unknown depths excite you?

I am still working my way through moving fics to AO3 from LJ and I hadn't realized that they have changed so drastically how you post on LJ and how unintuitive it is now. *sighs*

Maybe I'm just getting old. XD I don't like all these new fangled changes and get off my lawn and turn that racket you call music down! *shakes fist*

Anyway, at one point in time, I was working my way through 100 drabble prompts with the claim of Iceman (Original Movieverse - which at the time was must "movieverse" - see? Old AF.) But, I decided to pick up and keep going with it.

Now I feel like I need to edit my "chart" - which I did copy over to DW as a private entry, so that it links to AO3. And I need to edit some of the AO3 entries so that the right titles and prompts are listed. It's never ending, but I suppose if I learn all this now, it will get easier as I continue to move things over.

Regardless! I have drabbled! I'm not sure if I can "share" a chapter, or if it's the whole fic - so I am continuing to learn as I post!

February: Do Nice Things For Yourself

So, I hope this meme shows up. Then I hope it makes you laugh. Then I hope it makes you think, because it made me think.

I realized a few things:

1. I am pretty amazing.
2. I should treat myself like I'm trying to keep myself happy.

So, I really thought about it.

Then I bought myself flowers. And nice perfume because I like it and it makes me so happy. And then I bought myself a ticket to a concert I really want to see.

Life is short.

Would *you* stand outside the house in the rain to make you happy???

Do it.

It doesn't have to be spending money. Make yourself a dinner you enjoy. Listen to the album you like. Watch a movie you're interested in. Take some YOU time and do something FOR YOU. Don't shoehorn in other things - like housework. Actually treat yourself like you're trying to make yourself happy.

Umbrella Academy fused with The Goblin Market fairy tale: Homeward, with One Star Awake by seleneheart. I really enjoyed this and it was gorgeous prose.

MCU: The Falcon and Winter Soldier: Home In Your Heart by seekrest. A coda that follows the series, with a gorgeous look at James Barnes and Sarah Wilson and the relationship they build.

X-Men Comics: Age of Apocalypse: When the Weather Turns by Tangerine. A complicated look at Scott, who he was in the Age of Apocalypse, and who he is at his very core. Also, some gorgeous Scott/Logan work.

And two stories by mugsandpugs. Both X-men: Evolution.

Foregone Conclusions - a series of one shot stand alones that give us the author's take on the Brotherhood's pasts.

This Must Be the Place - the story of found family. I cannot stress how much I loved this story.

As I'm continuing to move things from LJ to AO3, I discovered that I'd written precisely three fics for Kink Bingo. One Merchant of Venice - which surprised the hell out of me when I reread it! And two Hank McCoy/Abigail Brand fics.

I have precisely NO memory of these. XD

I did, however, read them with great interest, because they hit a lot of my buttons! Haha. Oops.
