30 Day Meme: Day One - Introduction
I'm Rachel, also known as Bewize even amongst "real life" friends. I'm 31 years old, tall, white, female, single, spastic and probably a bit much. Really, if you're reading this, you probably already know that. *lol*
Some of the normal facts people ask: I'm a self-employed attorney, part time paralegal, part time writer, and I do closings on a contract basis. Yes, I do work 4 jobs. I'm often very busy. In addition to that, I write for myself for pleasure and with the hope to get published at some point in the future.
I live in Atlanta, which is a city that I love, with friends. I was laid off in 2009 and after a few months of melting down, I decided that fate had given me my chance to have the life I really want to live. Thus moving in with friends and all the working. I want to own my own firm (and now I do!) and I want to be a writer (and now I am!), but it's financially difficult to go from a salary to nothing, so...
Luckily, I have a vast and wonderful support network of friends. They are all amazing and several people offered to take me in. Now, I live with V and P and my godson M, who is 17 months old and perfect. I have two cats (Max and Oscar). V and P and M have two cats. So there are three adults, four cats and one toddler under one roof. It's always an adventure.
But, I really have grown to like it. Last night, we all went out to dinner, then I went running, came back to help P with a project for his work (he owns a restaurant) and then chatted with V while she worked on her own work stuff. M, of course, was asleep. The cats lounged around, played with toys, scuffled a bit (still getting used to each other) and it was pretty much perfect.
That does not mean that I have given up on the idea of moving into my own place soon. It just means that I will be debt free first. On that note, my goal over the past two years (since getting laid off) has been to eliminate my debt. With the exception of student loans and the car, I will be debt free by the end of this year. That is more exciting than I can even put into words.
For pay, I write a lot of articles about entertainment and healthy living and local living. I really enjoy all of those, because I am inherently nosy. It makes me a good lawyer and I think it gives me an edge when it comes to writing.
For fun, I write a variety of fiction (including some of the fan-variety). I enjoy it immensely and as hobbies go, it's wonderful. I've met some really amazing people and hey, you can't beat free!
I believe that the best way to get to know somebody is to look at their friends. I think I have the most amazing friends in the world, so I must be doing something right. *lol*
Family is complicated. Mine lives about 4 hours away and on some days it's not far enough and on others it might as well be the other side of the moon.
I love to read and I love TV, but I don't have much time for either at the moment.
I've recently gone on an exercise and weight loss kick. Both of these are more for my personal life than as any judgment on others. I don't like the way I look or feel and I don't like what my health has done because - in part - of the extra weight, so I'm doing something about it. I appreciate that not everyone is the same, but when I look at my family history and see it rife with diabetes, heart problems and osteoporosis, I can't NOT do something and then claim that health problems were unexpected.
Most importantly, my life is bizarre. I've grown fond of it, but at times, it mystifies even me and I'm pretty much here for the whole ride, so how I manage to miss bits of it is beyond comprehension. But that about sums me up. :)
And in the interest of free for all, ask questions if you have them. :)
And the fact that it has taken me a week to finish this entry does not bode well for the actual "30 days" part. But I will try.
