A Million Years

It has been about that long since I used DW or LJ or any real journal at all. A lot has happened, so:

* Bought a house
* Moved in with boyfriend
* Had a baby
* He turns 4 this year
* He is EVERYTHING good in the world
* Which is why I'm finding myself drawn back to fandom.

I need more good in my world adn 18 months of living on the edge of a the apocalypse has drained me. Like, seriously drained me. LOL!

Still have a job (yay!) and still work a lot, but I haven't written much in probably... well, it's been a very long time. I'm rusty for sure.

I recently decided to take the time to migrate fics from LJ to AO3. Talk about a blast from the past. I wrote a LOT back in the day and I don't remember much of it! Hahaha! I've been enjoying reading, polishing some, and reposting. It's been good for me, I think, and it's definitely fanning my desire to be fannish again.

I'm struggling to figure out where fandom lives now. LOL!

I know! He's gotten soooo big. The mind boggles. LOL!

As for fandom, right now I'm being sucked back into X-men (nostalgia, coupled with the Iceman run of comics!), and Legacies (if I can find good fic...), and I've been totally sucked into an epic Mandalorian fic much to my surprise. But it's sooooo good.

Oh, which Iceman comics are you reading? I think I still have Marvel unlimited but i haven't looked at it for a while and I am not very current on X-stuff. I went on a classic New Mutants kick for a while last fall and wrote some fic for that and for All-New Wolverine. Most of the XMen fandom I'm familiar with these days is around podcasts -- Jay & Miles X-Plain the X-Men and Battle of the Atom/ Xavier Files/Comics XF. They have various twitter/discord/tumblr presences too.

And there is some good fanwork being done around Mandalorian for sure!

I'm currently really obsessed with The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, which is a book series about teenagers in rural Virginia who get involved with lots of weird magic and also trying to date each other, which has really good canon m/m and m/f ships and a pretty active but not overwhelming fanfic and fanart community. So that's eaten my brain lately.

That book series sounds amazing. I went through a real funk (it was law school) that stole a lot of the joy of reading from me. I've only in the last year really gotten back into it for fun and it's been all audio books. I'll have to check this series out! Is it YA? Either way, it sounds amazing.

This cover dragged me back into comics (maybe kicking and screaming a bit), because I have a deep and powerful love for Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends (the 80s cartoon). But, Iceman has become a rather popular character (compared to his past) all of a sudden and he's gotten AWESOME. (He was always awesome. Now they write him like it. LOL!)

Oh yay I'm glad there's good Iceman content out there!! He's often been underappreciated by canon (if not by fandom).

The Stiefvater books are classified as YA though i think the current fandom/readership is a bit older, if only because the first one came out in 2012 so even teens who started reading the books when they were new are adults now.

The first one is called 'The Raven Boys.' There are also popular audiobook versions if that's an easier way for you to read. Do let me know if you give them a try I have So Many Thoughts.
