The pollen is not my friend. It is so thick in the air it's choking the breath out of me. I've used my inhaler everyday for the last four days. That makes me sad.

See for yourself -

Pollen

Anyway, in honor of the disgustingness, I present a poem for today:

Pollen Dance (3 Haiku) by Lori L Moore

delicate flower
partners with the little bee
Spring is beginning

yellow dust dances
upon lively playful breeze
pollen yields new life

rainbow colors rise
a field of party dresses
crafted by nature

************

Now, I present an alternate, more realistic, version:

Disgusting Tree Semen (3 Haiku) by Bewize

icky yellow dust
disgusting tree semen flies
covers everything

spring blossoms overnight
flowers bloom and spread their seed
I should wash my car

puffs of yellow at
my feet; also in the street
now I pray for rain

*bows* Thank you. Thank you all.

Like Men and Women Shadows Walk by Emily Dickinson

Like Men and Women Shadows walk
Upon the Hills Today --
With here and there a mighty Bow
Or trailing Courtesy
To Neighbors doubtless of their own
Not quickened to perceive
Minuter landscape as Ourselves
And Boroughs where we live --

*********

I really like this poem and imagery it brings to mind. It makes me think of Peter Pan and childish whimsy, yet with a slightly more detached air.

April is National Poetry Month. I figured I'd torture you all with some of my favorites, despite the fact that I really kind of loathe poetry. Enjoy anyway!

Whatif by Shel Silverstein

Last night, while I lay thinking here,
some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
and pranced and partied all night long
and sang their same old Whatif song:
Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?
Whatif I don't grow taller?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?
Whatif the fish won't bite?
Whatif the wind tears up my kite?
Whatif they start a war?
Whatif my parents get divorced?
Whatif the bus is late?
Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight?
Whatif I tear my pants?
Whatif I never learn to dance?
Everything seems well, and then
the nighttime Whatifs strike again!

****************

I spend too many of my nights with this sort of song playing in my head. I can relate. Also, I love Shel Silverstein.
