At the suggestion of a friend, I just finished The Raven Boys, by Maggie Stiefvater which is the first book in The Raven Cycle Quartet. It was excellent. I listed to it on audiobook and would be remiss if I didn't comment on the quality of the narration by Will Patton. I loved it. I loved the drawl of southern accent his voice had and the quality he gave a book that was really, incredibly beautifully written.

No real spoilers here, but I loved the way that the characters were fully developed people whose lives we happened upon at a particular moment in time. I loved that the hints of backstory weren't always explained and left a lot up to the readers to determine, and the pace with which these characters and their secrets came to light.

It as an excellent read/listen and I'm looking very forward to the next book in this series!

It's snowing!

Well, actually, it snowed. Like 4 inches. *agog*

Now it's freezing raining and the snow already has a nice crunchy level of ice on it. Joy. That'll be fun tomorrow and Wednesday... but I'll borrow that problem when it actually exists.

Thankfully, we have power and heat and plenty of food (and beer for tonight's game! Whoot!) and the internets mean I can still work. :D:

I read H.G. Well's Time Machine last night. I've never read it before, though I have read some of his other work. Umm, terrifying! It really scared the bejebes out of me. I'm looking forward to the discussion at [livejournal.com profile] dysfic101 today.

I've got one more article to finish that's due today and I've got the stuff to write the articles for next week, so that's on the agenda. Plus, I have a WHOLE LIST (currently 43 items long) for the week. I shall see what I can get accomplished this fine fine day. :)

I'm sure I'll be back later, too.

This is a fanmade trailer to The Hunger Games.

I'm blown away and would absolutely go and see this movie. And if anyone knows who xtsukichan13x is on LJ/DW or the like, let me know!

I know. Hate me if you must, and I hate myself a bit for admitting that I like this, but...

THE SCENE WITH THE GUY WITH THE GLITTER OUT OF HIS SHOULDERS HAS CONVINCED ME THIS IS SOME SORT OF FIGHT BETWEEN FALLEN ANGELS AND I WANT MORE. OMG, I WANT TO READ THAT SO BAD!

Which brings me to a book I read, which someone (Benjamin Bliss) turned into a trailer and won a Book Award for:

The trailer highlights the thing about the book I hated (the Twilight feel of it), but also captures some of the things that made this book impossible to put down. And the ending... ambiguous spoilers here )

Okay then.

I got a lot done today and I'm very pleased with myself. I'm especially pleased with the fact that I got something ready to be filed that has been hanging over my head for months. MONTHS.

I'm prepared to file it tomorrow, when I will swing by the juvenile court on my way into the office. Boo yah.

I also got into a fight with a client, which ended badly, and I suggested he fire me if he didn't want to take legal advice. I bluntly told him that would allow me to withdraw from the case and that he could go and make a cluster of it on his own without dragging me through the mud with him. He called me later, apologized, and we are going to work it out, I think. *rolls eyes*

But, these things have been causing me anxiety and I feel better about it now.

First thing this morning, I found this link about US Marines in Afghanistan adopting kittens. You guys. I died. It's the most adorable link ever. EVER.

No seriously, if you want to make negative comments, DON'T.

This makes me very happy.

I'm already in my PJs. I have been since 7. I don't even care. I'm a tired tired Bewize.

This weekend, I'm going to go to Macon and see the BraggJam. I'm pretty excited, because I've talked to a lot of these bands. I shall see if I can snag any of them to say hi in person.

Also, it will be wonderful to see Steph's new house! I'm excited!

I had a conversation today that amused me. It began, "Hey, you remember that stoned artist guy that hit on you at last year's Dragon*Con?"

I did, indeed, remember him. Turns out he's got a new book out. It just amused me that any conversation ever gets to start that way. Another artist I met at DC last year emailed me and invited me to a signing. I love that part of my life. *hearts*

Tonight is Top Chef and Psych and both make me very, very happy. I'm also going to try and finish Comedy of Errors. It's been interesting thus far and hits my twin brother fascination hard. Two sets of twins!

I picked up Skin Trade from the library. I heard it was decent and that it has Edward in it. I'm hopeful that both are true. EDWARD! ♥

I also borrowed a Harlan Cobin book from Nat, so I will read that next.

Of course, all of this is after I finish the Lisa Shearin book that I'm almost done with. I frigging LOVE her series. Best thing I've come across in a long, long time. The heroine is awesome and genuine and neither uber!powerful or uber!bitchy. She makes mistakes. She trusts other people. She is wonderful and I love her.

The Braves game tonight is going pretty well. J Hey stole home! Whoot!

Today's theme for 3w4dw seems to be books and reading. Also, since [community profile] littleknownbooks is hosting an event awarding DW points for posts on, well, little known books, I thought I'd share five of my favorite children's books.

Some of these I've reread recently, but most I haven't. I was surprised to realize how old all of them were in relation to how old I am (they're a lot older!), so I want to be sure that I leave a caveat that - while I don't remember race!fail or any other fail in the books, I would be surprised if there wasn't some in there somewhere.

Regardless, I read these books until the pages fell apart as child and I loved them. I still think of all of them fondly to this day.
