REC: Castle

There is a wonderful, amazing vid that I found on my flist this morning. It's Castle! And anyone who wants to know what makes this show so fantastic should go watch it.

The video perfectly captures the relationships Castle builds with these strong women in his life. And, what I love about the show, is that the relationships don't result in anything lopsided. Castle is a strong character. He doesn't get played as foppish or ridiculous, like you see in so many tv shows now. But it's more than that. It's nice to see a man really appreciate and not be threatened by strong women.

I'm behind on this season, but I still maintain that Castle, while he may want more from Beckett, would genuinely be happy to just have her as a friend. And he's not ashamed to live with his mom. ♥

And his daughter! I confess freely, Alexis is the reason I fell for this show so hard, and the relationship that the two of them have is brilliant.

You have totally articulated two of my favorite things about Castle: that it is fully of strong, wonderful, multifaceted women (of all ages!) and that Castle is portrayed as a strong man who likes and admires these women for being strong.

The first couple episodes of Castle I kept worrying that Castle was too much of a jerk and that I wouldn't be able to keep watching, not even for Nathan. And then I realized that he certainly wasn't a jerk around his daughter, who clearly adored him, and that he had a warm, adult relationship with his mother (if not without its snark.)

And that Beckett could take care of herself, and then some!

I saw another Castle vid yesterday, and in one clip Castle says, "I'm a wiseass, not a jackass." YES. THIS.
