"I'm sorry I was home later than expected."

"Thank you for waiting for me."

****

"I'm sorry I was sick and useless last night."

"Thank you for taking care of the baby so I could get some extra sleep."

****

"I'm sorry I didn't get that date on the calendar like I should have."

"Thank you for reminding me and watching my back."

****

"I'm sorry I can't be there as early as you would like."

"Thank you for starting later so I can join in the fun."

****

"I'm sorry I was sick and useless last night."

"Thank you for taking care of the baby so I could get some extra sleep."

****

"I'm sorry I'm too worn down to cook."

"Thank you for going out to dinner with me tonight and letting me have an extra break."

****

"I'm sorry I was so grumpy yesterday."

"Thank you for being so loving and caring for me when I was so out of sorts."

****

"I'm sorry I forgot to RSVP to the party."

"Thank you for making space for us at the last minute."

I'm sorry for a lot of things, but "sorry" focuses on the negative in so many places and it leads me to dwell and ruminate and navel-gaze. Thank you allows me to celebrate someone else's generosity and kindness and compassion to me.

I'm working on saying sorry less (but still when needed!) and thank you far more often (even more than needed!).

Life goals and ambitions.

Maybe "Thank you" will be my "word" for 2019.

This hits home for me. It's hard to change the "I'm sorry" to "Thank you for" when you feel so... guilty. If that's even the proper word. But spreading negativity doesn't help anyone (of all people, I definitely know!), so I like this notion. It would take me a year to get down, but I think it's a great goal, and a kind, worthwhile one at that. It's something to consider.

Thank you for writing this entry. I'm not sorry for having read it. :) <3

You're very right about saying "sorry" less. And I wish you luck in your endeavor!

I love how positive this is! Gratitude is one of my favorite virtues, one I'm still working hard to develop. Thank you for making it look so easy.

This is great. I know of this technique, but always forget to try in the moment. Glad that it works for you :)

Excellent advice! My sister shared something like this last month. I ought to try practicing it.
