Introduce myself, eh?
If I knew myself, keeping a journal wouldn't be nearly as much fun, now would it? *grins*
So, here are some basic statistics. Single. Female. White. Educated. Liberal. Cat Owner.
I know someone just said, "Oh, it's that girl who's going to be the crazy cat lady when she gets old!!!" *eyes the readers* Anyway, back to "who I am."
I have a job. (Aside: Why is it that most confuse who you are with what you do?) In fact, I not only have a Job, I have a Practice. I "practice" law, and it's a good thing it's just practice because God knows sometimes I don't have a clue what I'm doing. (Which brings me to the point where I should say that I keep my LJ mostly locked, to protect myself from being sued for the occasional incompetence, the random nastiness, the oft-justified cattiness, and general bitchiness about my Boss and Co-Workers. I will be leaving
therealljidol entries open to the public, though, because that's the point. *grins*)
Let's see - normal family stuff, divorced parents (that I love but who are crazy enough to have made me the way I am), a sister (who goes out of her way at times to give me gray hairs... on purpose, the way siblings do), a half brother (best to leave him out of it), and a step-sister (who made things interesting by the being both the youngest and the only one married). Etc.
Well, that wasn't terribly enlightening, so I shall change tactics. From basics to peculiarities, shall we?
I like (*deep breath*) - concerts, the louder the better; cats, especially opinionated ones; books about everything from archeology to zoology, with vampires and demons and bears, oh my! in between; real mayonnaise, although I've switched to olive oil mayo after a brief stint with reduced fat mayo and vegannaise; socks that fit just a little too tightly; shoes that are just a little too high; people who entertain me (and I'm easy entertained); the smell of fall leaves and wood smoke; the Atlanta Braves (shut up! next year is our year!); the feeling you get right after you go to bed and you're all stretched out and comfortable; compliments, especially if its someone telling me that I've lost weight; open ended questions about nothing in particular; intelligent discussions in fandom; Christmas trees and sparklers; and, mostly, feeling like I make a positive difference to someone in someway.
I don't like (*equally deep breath*) - ill-tuned musical instruments; most reptiles; poetry (I know, I know, but I don't give a damn about any urns, Grecian or otherwise); food that masquerades as healthy and isn't; socks that are worn all the way up the calf; crocs (yes, I know they're comfortable, but so are sweat pants and I don't wear those in public either); close minded bigots; the smell of cherry medicine (or anything cherry now, because it all smells like medicine); fair weather fans of any sport; all nighters, especially if it's for work; being nagged about things I don't want to do; comments designed just to score points off someone; stupidity in general, but especially on the road; post-Thanksgiving dishes and government holidays that most people don't get; and, especially, feeling helpless in the face of someone I love suffering.
Phew. I guess that gives you a little bit better of an idea. Maybe? Possibly? How about some favorites? Though these are subject to change on a whim.
Favorite color is green. Favorite band is U2 (although I like pretty much everything when it comes to music). Favorite food is Mexican. Favorite pastime is writing. Favorite thing to do while hanging out with friends is sitting in a pub and chatting. Favorite car is a Mercedes 500 XL Convertible. Favorite TV network is USA (Burn Notice and Psych FTW!), followed closely by BBCA (Torchwood and Primeval!). Favorite vacation destination is London, UK.
I don't know if this is helping you get to know me or making you think that I'm *this close* to being locked in a loony bin. So, let me sum myself up as best I can and let you get on your merry way.
~ I like people. I've met few people that I didn't find interesting and even fewer that I didn't like.
~ I like experiences. I have few pictures in my house because I don't dwell on the past, and look forward to doing something else, different and better.
~ I want to travel and see the world.
~ I want to be the best friend I can be and the best person I'm capable of being.
~ I want an adventure, and I want it to be grand.
Oh, and one last thing. When I die, I very much hope that it's in such a way that my tombstone can read, SHE WENT WITH A BANG!
So, if you've read all that, let me finish up by saying that what you see is what you get. Otherwise, what's the point?
Thanks for reading and I look forward to making new friends!

Date: 2008-09-19 07:54 pm (UTC)I love the way your asides are smaller, like whispers, and the way you've made the idol explanation thingy so unobtrusive, too.
One of my ferrets has to have children's benadryl at the moment. It's cherry-flavoured. She may possibly hate it even more than you ;).
Looking forward to more soon!(entries, not cherry-flavoured benadryl, of course)

Date: 2008-09-20 01:24 am (UTC)I don't either, except that in some professions, I guess you never get it "right."
XD
Thanks for reading!

Date: 2008-09-20 05:25 pm (UTC)When I was selected to read a portion of it, I referred to it as "Ode to a Grecian Pot" - which caused my teacher to do a spit-take. With an amused smile at my deadpan reading voice, she informed me after I was through that she had based all of her post-graduate work on that awful poem.
But by the end of the year...she, too, was calling it a "pot."
Excellent intro; very nice to meet you and look forward to more. :D

What do you write?
no subject
Date: 2008-09-22 03:22 pm (UTC)*grins*
I write both original and fanfiction
because I am a giant dork. I figure both that and politics will come up in future LJ Idol posts (assuming I'm still around in the game), so I left that out for now. In the interest of shameless selfpromotion, though, if you like fanfiction I will gleefully show you where I store my stuff. ;) It ranges the gamut of fandoms. Most of my original fiction is offline, as I dream of some day publishing it.(no subject)

Date: 2008-09-23 06:18 am (UTC)Second, I've read your intro about 4 times now, each time trying to figure out what I want to say. I still can't figure it out, because there is so much. What I will ask, though, is this:
Vegannaise??? It sounds completely horrific, but I'm sure it's not. I have not yet made the switch to olive oil, only because I have at least an inch left of the low-fat variety.
Third, good luck with this crazy contest and I am really looking forward to reading you more!

Date: 2008-09-23 01:29 pm (UTC)Hehehe, the inability to respond to something I've said is a common side effect, I find. I tend to just sort of... say everything at once. Usually, it's best to let things settle, then maybe something is of particular interest...
...like vegannaise! It was not bad. I had more of an issue with it than I should have. Also, health food wise, it wasn't as good as I would have anticipated. The olive oil mayo both tastes better, has better consistency, and is better for you. I shall make the switch, loathe though I am to do so.
Finally, thank you and the same to you. Honestly, I don't anticipate a long run, but I *do* anticipate challenging myself to be a better writer and reading some interesting posts along the way. That's pretty much my only expectation. :)
